SPECIAL EVENTSIt is important to regularly have events that your athletes can look forward to and train for. Your program is different from Globo gyms due to the strong community that is built by exercising at a level of intensity that only those within your community can understand. It's nice to get to know your members inside and outside of the box. People will join your program to be part of a community, meet new people, and get in shape.

Here is a list of community building events that will help strengthen and maintain a tight community within your box and spread the word about your affiliate to the public.

CrossFit For Hope Benefits the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. http://hope.crossfit.com/
CrossFit Games Open Every year in the late winer/early spring HQ posts one workout per week for 5-6 weeks as an open invitation for everyone around the world to qualify for the Games. Get your affiliate on board and encourage as many of your members to participate. It doesn't matter if they think they have a chance of making it to the Games or not. This is a great way to increase participation, build community, and encourage your members to take their commitment to fitness and a healthy lifestyle to a whole new level. http://games.crossfit.com/article/welcome-2013-season
Tough Mudder A 10-12 mile obstacle course designed by the British Special Forces that raises money for the Wounded Warrior Project. http://toughmudder.com/
Off-Site WODs At the Beach, in the Mountains, at the Park, Trail Runs, Hash Runs, etc...
Fittest Man & Fittest Woman In-House Competition Conduct a friendly competition amongst your members to determine who takes the title of your box’s Fittest Man and Woman.
Inter-Class Competition Most of your members will probably be drawn toward a certain class time. Use that to your advantage by making each class time a Team for this competition. Conduct an in-house competition between classes to determine which class is the fittest. You can even have coaches represent the class that they coach. Incentives and prizes are always a fun contribution to any competition.
Paleo Or Zone Potluck Hopefully you will encourage your members to eat close to the standards of the Paleo or Zone guidelines. A great way to share recipes and educate your members about proper nutrition is a Box Potluck. Everyone brings a Paleo or Zone friendly dish to share.
Nutrition Seminar Find a local nutritionist who shares your beliefs to donate their time or trade them a month of training to deliver a class to your members. They can make a slide show with visual aids to help instill proper nutrition choices. We were lucky enough to discover that two of our atheltes were nutritionists. Use your resources and ask around to find the right person to address your athlete’s.
Paleo Challenge This is an amazingly successful event because it gives instant results to eager members. Most of your members want to change something about their bodies and this event helps them reach their goals quickly. We conducted a 6 week challenge using a point system and incentivize the event by creating 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes. It was treated as a 6 week competitive WOD where the athlete’s earned points and it became a fun game instead of a diet. Here is the PALEO CHALLENGE SCORECARD we used and the guidelines we set up for thePALEO CHALLENGE RULES.
Viewing Parties For The Games. There are plenty of events that lead up to the Games. Get your athlete’s together and take a field trip to a Regional Competition. You can bring a tent with your logo on it and encourage your members to wear box T-Shirts to gain camaraderie. If you don’t live close enough, have your athlete’s DO the Regional workouts to see where they place in the world of competitive fitness. Also, for boxes not close to competitions, get your members together at a Sports Bar, your house, or if you have a TV/Projector at your box and watch the Games together! They are so exciting to watch with fellow members and really bring everyone together on their common ground: love for fitness.
